On Meetings
At my last company, we had so many meetings. I was an AE and it was a big sales org. We would do daily standups just to proclaim what we were working on that day and how we were going to attack it. And then we would have weekly meetings with our sales manager and of course all-hands and a few others that would come up.
These were all internal. And boy were 90% of them a complete waste of time.
I learned that sales managers schedule meetings because it makes them feel productive. By putting time on their and your calendar it makes them feel like they are getting something done when in reality they're just wasting your time.
This was one of the reasons I left the company. I became too frustrated by the bureaucracy of it all.
So now I know -- almost all meetings can be done over email. And most emails can be done over slack.
One hack to reducing your time spent in meetings is to set your default meeting time to 15 minutes. It forces you to get right to business.
